Shepherd Community

Residing on hilly plateaus, rearing of milch cattle for production of milk and trade in cattle is the main source of livelihood of this community. Environmental degradation, lack of veterinary aids due to remoteness of the area, scarcity of green and nutritious fodder in summer season impacts the quality and quantity of milk.

Youths

The migration of youths is the major problem in the work area. Hence to rekindle interest of these rural youths in agriculture and allied activities as well as to develop a cadre of technicians in the SJSM promoted programmes, to develop entrepreneurship among the rural youths and extension of agriculture and allied activities related technologies at grass root level, SJSM promoted the 3 years Diploma course at Rammala for the 10th and 12th passed students. This Agriculture Technology school is affiliated to Mahatma Phule Agricultural University, Rahuri.

Scheduled Cast (Dalits)

They encounter social exclusion and discrimination. They are almost landless and depend on manual labour employment for their survival.

Women

Multiple deprivations viz. gender-based discrimination, violence, ownership over productive assets and property, restrictions on mobility, decision making about self-development make them the most powerless entities.

Adolescent

Adolescence is the phase of life between childhood and adulthood, from ages 10 to 19. It is a unique stage of human development and an important time for laying the foundations of good health. Adolescents experience rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth. This affects how they feel, think, make decisions, and interact with the world around them. To grow and develop in good health, adolescents need information, including age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education; opportunities to develop life skills; health services that are acceptable.

Rural Artisans

The cane and bamboo crafts makers, traditional healers, Non-Timber Forest Produce (NTFP) collectors, food and fruit processors etc. are the rural artisans. They face problems like lack of technological interventions, lack of knowledge and facilities for value addition, preservation and packaging methods, lack of marketing skills and facilities.

Katkari Community

It is the most primitive tribal communities belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). The Katkari tribal is most deprived & considered the most poor, neglected and isolated amongst all adivasis, residing on the village outskirts, along the hillsides, on the periphery of the river banks or in forest land. Illiteracy, ignorant and superstitious , the Katkari tribe barely survived on traditional seasonal fishing, selling forest produce and timber, and were completely alienated from mainstream village community. Issues like poor health, malnutrition, lack of access to Government schemes deprive this tribal community of basic necessities of living. Migration for work and survival is rampant among the tribal families. Majority of the households are landless and deprived of assets required for survival.

Marginal Farmers

Comprise of a majority in the project region. Environmental destruction, climate changes, agriculture policies, promoting high input and high value crops has affected their survival very deeply.
